Fractal Flames Community and Resources
Interests me how you can get something looking 3D without the 3D setup, case in point this image. I guess it’s the 3D blur that does the hard work.
Java is essential for Jwildfire, setting it up is fairly straightforward but mistakes can get made. Read this guide to see how.

“JWildfire is a free and user-friendly image-processing software, mostly known for its sophisticated flame-fractal-generator. It is Java-based, open-source and runs on any major computer-plattform. There is also a special Android-version for mobile devices.”
The clue to getting good shiny objects, is to map an image from the 3D rendering part of JWildfire, then I use the same image as the background to make it look like the object is reflecting the background.
For this, it started as part of Robert’s flame game, but evolved into something else using a Parplot. I’ve made the material of the 3D the same as the background.
Another one for the Weird Sphere flame game, this time I decided I was going to use Parplot as the beginning transform. Wow, some good results can be had with this. I added the reflection map to the flame and used the same image for the background.
Playing with the parameters of this one, great fun, can create all kinds of unusual and interesting shapes. Here’s my first go at it.
Some tips on fixing issues you may have with JWildfire.
The glynnSim variations are a cross between linear and spherical. Using the unit circle as a dividing line, their output has three parts:
Outside the unit circle is whatever was there before (like linear),
Inside the unit circle is a reflection across the unit circle of what was outside the unit circle (like spherical), and
The points that were inside the unit circle are replaced with a blur:
